Rolled up to this year’s highly anticipated Wet Hot American Bummer expecting to just bum around but ended up signing up and going along for the ride, with a bunch of blurry photos. Manifests went out at 1:30 and most people got out their phones and started planning routes. It is rumored some went as far as to plug the manifest into AI to find their best way around the east side. Dave and I decided to rough it only using the manifest, and not use phones and try our memory of the streets.

Water being handed out by the instigator of madness, Andy.

All the racers had to place their bikes on the ground and would have to run over to pick them up to start the race, known as a “Le Mans Start”

As yellow smoke rises, phone maps transform into cameras

And we’re off!

Each checkpoint had a task that had to be completed to get the appropriate sign on the manifest. This required us to bring a ball onto the stage and kick it off.

Running to avoid goatheads

After the first checkpoint Dave and I picked up Will who was down to follow our phoneless wanderings. This checkpoint required beating the dealer in a hand of blackjack.

The Troll Toll was to pick a page out of the book, spell a word off of it, and save the page for later.

I told James that I had done some Bike Creepin’ on his whip at the grocery store before.

There was a challenge here that involved buckets and strings but when we showed up the police were takin’ it down.

I thought I was getting photos of racers but just a nice photo of some nice bikes on a beautiful day!

Selfie-Bonus challenge at the community gardens.

This one you had to Slip Da Slide

The vibes were good

Stop your stopwatch on your phone between certain times.. I got it on the first try and was told I was lucky. Sure, do not acknowledge these skills over here!

Take a shot of either Tequila, Half and Half, or Hot Sauce.

It was either lose a quarter of your eyebrow, or make 4 laps, and they said we didn’t have time to do the 4 laps

Selfie spot that Dave and I couldn’t recall by memory since it was just the name on the manifest and not the map.
Not photographed was the check point under the new tunnel. We had to answer questions based on the mosaics we saw. My question I was asked was “name two nocturnal animals you saw” and I went with “Raccoon” and “Armadillo” and was told Armadillo was wrong. Dave hooted, and I could have gone with bat.. but.. anyways we looked it up after getting home and 9 Banded Armadillos are indeed nocturnal. Not that anybody reading this asked.

The post-race celebrations took place on the new bridge on Town Lake and Pizza was rapidly consumed

Swag, prizes, and nice bikes. The Vita Coco was apparently a prize but was also enjoyed by whomever.
